Juan Atkins: The Originator Still Shaping the Airwaves

If Detroit techno has a founding frequency, it runs through Juan Atkins. As half of Cybotron and the force behind Model 500, Atkins gave electronic music a language of futurism that still feels current on a 313 LIVE set.

His tracks don’t date — they orbit. When they surface on the station, you’re hearing the blueprint that every subsequent generation of techno producers still studies: cold funk, machine soul, and a vision of the city as science fiction made real.

Listen with intent

Next time a Model 500 cut hits the stream, don’t skip. Let the sequence breathe. That’s not nostalgia — that’s architecture. Explore more artist stories on the 313 LIVE blog and keep the live player open.
